Who is Sensei Judy and what is her rank? Ansei Ueshiro promoted Sensei Judy to 6th degree in December 2000. Sensei Judy has been the glue of the Shorin-Ryu Karate Organization since 1975. She was the co-owner of a school in New York City with Ansei Ueshiro that began a family organization of schools that spread throughout the entire world. Sensei Judy is part of the early history of Shorin-Ryu karate USA under the direction of Grand Master Ansei Ueshiro and currently holds the rank of 8th degree black belt.
Does Sensei Judy teach?
Sensei Judy currently conducts 6 to 10 classes per week and is responsible for introducing every new student that joins the Okinawan Karate Dojo to the art and discipline of Shorin-Ryu Karate, as she has since her Merritt Island school opened 1988. The school is devoted to promoting the art of Shorin-Ryu Karate USA, a basic style that anyone can do. She has taught thousands of students, from Doctors and Lawyers to Moms, Dads, and children as young as five.

Sensei Barnhart moved to Florida in 1984 to join the manned space program. He retired from Kennedy Space Center in 2011. He has been training at the Okinawan Karate Dojo since 1991. He holds the rank of 6th dan and title of Kyoshi in Shorin-Ryu Karate USA. Sensei Barnhart, chief instructor of the Okinawan Karate Dojo, is most appreciated for his wonderful sense of humor and his focus on the technical aspects of Kata and weapons. He instructs classes three times per week. Sensei Barnhart has been happily married to Sensei Judy since 1998. We call him Sensei as the title Kyoshi is used in the written form in Japanese.

Shane Scaglione has been on the yoga path since 1998 and started a daily practice in Los Angles, CA in 2003. He has been teaching in Boulder since 2005 and currently teaches 7 to 15 classes a week. He completed Sivananda’s 200 hour month long residential Teacher Intensive in 2003 in Grass Valley, CA. He completed Richard Freeman’s 200 hour month long Intensive at the Yoga Workshop in Boulder, CO in July 2008 that featured asana, sanskrit chanting, philosophy, cadaver labs, and a 16 hour meditation retreat. He continues a daily practice with Richard Freeman and his senior teachers. He has lived over a year abroad in India including extensive travels, and studies with a senior Iyengar teacher Usha Devi in Rishikesh, and also studies of the Ashtanga system with senior Ashtanga Yoga teacher Rolf Naujokat in Goa and Sri K. Pattabhi Jois in Mysore.
