The New White belt!

100_0381Starting a karate program sounds like fun. The reasons for joining are varied and run the gamete of feel good, loose weight, self-defense, learn something new, get stronger, develop a positive habit, on the bucket list etc. Once enrolled the new student is issued a white belt. A new door opens and the student begins a learning curve. How to sit, how to stand, how to walk, how to punch, how to block, how to kick and how to do the warm ups are the emphasis of the new beginner. Hitting the punching post and the heavy bag is explored and working with partners is encouraged but at this level, the most important thing the student learns is the customary respect and the attitude of “Thank you and please teach me”.
